9-year-old organises clean-up revolution in Wendover

Young children from Wendover are hoping to make their streets clean in a litter pick revolution today.

9-year-old Lola Wardrop has organised a big clean-up in Wendover today (21st Sep) as part of her Kids Clean Britain initiative.

"I came up with this idea because I was angry that people weren't looking after their areas and were just dropping litter on the floor."

Lola came up with the idea earlier this year and even got sponsors on board

Lots of Lola's school friends from Wendover Junior School will be joining her in collecting litter and bringing it to Wendover Library between 11am and 1pm.

She is encouraging everyone to get involved:

"When you drop litter on the floor, it just makes it not as nice to walk around in and it doesn't look very good when there is rubbish everywhere.

"I've seen lots of pictures of hurt animals because of plastic - it just feels unfair."

One of Lola's friends, Wilber Williams, is taking part today, this is what he thinks about people leaving rubbish on the streets:

"It makes me really cross, angry and a little bit sad sometimes.

"Most of the time I just pick it up and stuff it straight into my mums back"

Tesco's are sponsoring the event and are giving out free ice cream to everyone that collects litter and brings it to Wendover Library.

Lola also told us you don't just have to collect litter in Wendover, you can pick-up rubbish where ever you live and bring it to the collection from 11-1pm.
