A new football tournament in Aylesbury is hoping to give the youth here more responsibility.

It's been organised in association with Aylesbury Masjid and a newly formed voluntary group called Al-Khaf.

They had their first event last Sunday (29th Sep).

15 teams entered the 6-aside competition, with more than 120 players involved.

Abid Shah is part of the group who has set it all up, they hope to give kids more responsibility and direction:

"This is a problem with the youth as such - many of whom are bored.

"Many  of them need a focus, a sense of direction and responsibility.

"That's what we're trying to do, bring them in and allocate them roles.

"Give them a sense of focus outside of their normal school or working lives."

He said it's important to bring everyone together:

"We're trying to get everyone together for a common goal.

"We're trying to get the kids, especially the youth and the young people, off the street and into a more focused development, relationship with the elders of the community through sport."

Al-Kahf aims to provide a range of ongoing educational, social and recreational activities working with and for people, particularly the youth, in the local community.

After the success of their event and the support they have gained they are hoping to run a winter, indoor tournament this December.
