Libraries week is being celebrated in Bucks

Published by Mix96 News at 12:40pm 9th October 2019.

You're being encouraged to visit your local library as part of libraries week.

Libraries now offer more than just traditional book borrowing with many local groups taking place including knitting and coding clubs.

Libraries week this year is focusing on everything digital with lots of digital services that you can access in your own home or using the free wifi in the libraries.

You can also access online newspapers and magazines free with your library membership.

Gareth Williams, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health at Buckinghamshire County Council said:

"Our libraries offer a welcoming, comfortable and very modern service. Many people still use their local library to borrow books of course, but the digital resources our library service offers are excellent.

For many people, libraries are a place to meet others too - so make sure you use Libraries Week to find out what your local library has on offer. With 30 libraries across the whole of Buckinghamshire your local library won't be far away!"

Also this week book borrowers at Buckinghamshire's 10 county-run libraries will be able to refer to the Qur'an in English, thanks to a gift of 20 copies by the Imam and members of Chesham mosque.

Receiving them on behalf of the library service, Gareth Williams, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Public Health, said:

"The generous gift of these books from Chesham mosque is very much appreciated, and our libraries will welcome this resource."

County Council Deputy Leader Mark Shaw said:

"The mosque is an integral and valuable part of our community in Chesham. This is a very kind gesture by the Imam and members of the mosque, which will give a wider audience reference to the Qur'an."
