Raising awareness in Bucks on World Mental Health Day

Buckinghamshire Mind are looking for volunteers as we raise awareness on World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day is being celebrated today (10th Oct) and this year's theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is suicide prevention.

Locally, Buckinghamshire Mind are looking for help with their befriending service.

Buckinghamshire Mind was founded in 1914 as Buckinghamshire Association for Mental Health and has grown and expanded over the 100 years they have been supporting people with mental health problems in the county.

The Befriending Service offers short and long term support to adults who are lonely or isolated as a result of mental illness.

Zoe Sole from the charity said:

"We have a number of clients across the county so people that might be struggling with their mental health.

"We pair them up with one of our volunteers and they meet up once a week for an hour to two hours for 6 months and it's really helping people reintegrate with the community and it might even be helping them get in contact with other services."

Anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer to help the befriending service.
