£14,000 water bill and mouldy house for Aylesbury woman

£14,000 water bill and mouldy house for Aylesbury woman

Published by the Mix96 News Team at 12:04pm 17th October 2019. (Updated at 3:58pm 17th October 2019)

A woman from Aylesbury claims she's been left with a £14,000 water bill and a house full of mould after troubles with her home from the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust.

Donna Barnard says she's been having multiple problems with her property since 2009, although the Trust say they are trying to sort the problem out and are committed to investigating her concerns. You can read their full statement here.

Mix96 has seen bills from Thames Water that total over £14,000 since 2014, which Miss Barnard says is down to faulty pipes and leaks.

Pictures show the amount of mould around her house over the past ten years, which Donna says VAHT have yet to do something about.

We've spoken to the Trust who say they have tried to contact Donna multiple times to sort out the issue, and have a mould wash treatment booked in for later this month.

They did do a mould wash in 2017, but Donna's pictures show the problem is persisting.

Donna says the mould has made her and her children ill over the years.

She has had pleurisy a number of times and her kids have suffered from aggravated asthma and inflamed lungs.

VAHT sent us this statement:

Our records indicate that we have responded in a timely manner to all requests made by Miss Barnard and we remain committed to investigating her concerns.

As recently as March this year we carried out a thorough inspection of the property which, whilst not providing any evidence of an ongoing leak, did highlight other works which have either been completed or are in progress.

For a number of months we have been trying to schedule a mould wash at the property and this has now been agreed with Miss. Barnard for the 29 October 19.

Since March we have, on a number of occasions, tried to arrange a meeting with Miss Barnard at her home and this has now been agreed for next week. Our Repairs Manager accompanied by our Senior Neighbourhood Manager will be seeking to carry out another inspection to review the water system and we also hope to contact Thames Water directly with Miss Barnard to clarify her water bill history.
