Those behind it say it's a chance to bring the community together.

Aylesbury invited to Black History Month event

Now is the perfect time for an event celebrating black history and culture in Aylesbury.

That is according to a group at the town's Multi-Cultural Centre, who say different communities need to be brought together, now more than ever.

Today's event includes music, dance, food and special talks.

Patty Morris is one of those behind it. She told us why they feel the event needs to happen:

"This particular society, I have always known it as a multi-cultural society and that is going back 55 years.

"Coming back to the area, I'm not getting that integrated feeling anymore."

So that's why Patty, her sister Jean and the rest of the team want to invite all of us to experience today's festivities.

She added:

"What I want to do is encourage the elders, so that we are educating ourselves, we're telling our stories, their stories, so that it reflects on the past, our present, so that we look to the future.

"What can we do differently now that can make us more integrated?"
