HS2 decision reportedly delayed until after general election

When the HS2 review is finished "it will be locked in the Department of Transport vaults" until after the general election.

That's what a tweet from the Deputy Chair of the review, Lord Berkeley, suggests.

Campaigners here aren't happy because they think we should know whether the high-speed rail is going ahead or not.

We asked Elizabeth Cairns, who's campaigned against the Great Missenden work, if she had seen the tweet:

"I have yes.

"I think if it's finished, it doesn't need to be locked anywhere, people need to see it because they need to make their voting choices based on information.

"But, also we need to know if these works will be stopped.

"When Grant Shapps called for the review, there was due to be a suspension of the works taking place."

But, that hasn't happened.

HS2 has started clearing land in Steeple Claydon and in Great Missenden protesters campaigned for weeks against preparation work, which eventually was postponed.

Elizabeth added:

"The reasons we had that good news in Great Missenden was because people came out because they knew what was happened.

"If this report is locked away people don't know what is happened and withholding information from the public when they need to make decisions based on important information like this - people need to decide how they want to vote."

According to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, the review was supposed to report to him in the autumn.
