Leaked draft of HS2 review seems to support project

A leaked early draft of the HS2 review seems to show support for the project to continue, according to The Times.

The high-speed 2 project is currently under review and we heard last week the findings wouldn't be out until after the election.

But, The Times newspaper claims to have seen a leaked draft of findings , which essentially support the work continuing.

The report talks about rising costs - around £88 billion at the moment - but those could be cut by running fewer trains.

This could be a big disappointment for many people here, hoping this review could put a stop the the project and the huge changes coming to our countryside.

The Tax Payers Alliance say the question over whether HS2 really is value for money doesn't seem to be being answered.

Commenting on the leaked report from the independent review into HS2, Harry Fone, Grassroots Campaign Manager at the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

"If these reports are true, this review is in danger of becoming a one-sided stitch up, resorting to old red herrings to keep plans to push ahead with HS2 on track.

"Despite admitting that the budget will have to increase yet again, as the official cost creeps ever nearer to £100 billion, it seems Mr Oakervee has chosen to go over old arguments rather than ask if this project really represents good value for taxpayers.

"With a likely cost-benefit ratio of less than one, the prime minister would do well to scrap this white elephant and use the money to fund big investment in regional transport projects instead."
