Council 'disappointed' by roadworks in Aylesbury town centre

Newly-laid paving has been dug up by contractors in Aylesbury town centre and the council aren't that happy.

Just months after AVDC completed a facelift of Long Lional in Aylesbury - the final phase of the Exchange development - contractors have dug up the newly-laid stone paving to work on underground services.

The works, of which AVDC had no prior notice, address a variety of unrelated issues, including emergency electrical and water valve repairs, and the installation of a gas and water supply for a new business in the Hale Leys Shopping Centre.

AVDC is now liaising with the various contractors to ensure the same high-quality natural stone paving is used to reinstate this area, and that the work is completed to the previous high standard, at no cost to the taxpayer.

However, as there is a long lead in time on the delivery of paving material, there will be a temporary reinstatement to provide a safe access for our town centre visitors at this busy time of the year, before the permanent reinstatement is completed.

Simone Williams, AVDC's New Development and Major Projects Programme Manager, said:

"It is very disappointing that this work has been necessary so soon after completion of our work.

"However, we are working with the service providers to ensure the reinstatements are completed using the correct materials, to the approved specification and at the service providers' cost."
