There are lots of options when you're not well, here are a few:

  • Call 999
    You should call 999 in a medical emergency – when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
  • NHS 111
    111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s is the free number to call when you have an urgent healthcare need. It directs you to the right local service, first time.
  • Health Help Now
    This is a Buckinghamshire based website to help you find the most appropriate local health service for common symptoms.
  • Healthy Minds
    Info on getting help with your mental health
  • Hector's House
    Text their helpline if you are struggling with mental health at this time of year: Text Hector to 85258
  • Wycombe MIIU
    The GP-led minor injuries and illness unit (MIIU) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, based at High Wycombe hospital.
  • Bucks Out-of-Hours GP service
    The out of hours GP service in Bucks is accessed by calling NHS 111, they will asses your condition and then decide if you need referring to this service.

Dr Dal Sahota, Director for Urgent Care at NHS Buckinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group and a local GP, said:

“Most of us are looking forward to the festive season and the celebrations it brings, so the last thing we want is to fall ill, but it often happens. Being prepared can stop your holiday fun from being ruined.

“Please check that you have all the medicines you need, whether it is a prescription or day-to-day remedies."

People experiencing mental health crisis can self-refer to additional out-of-hours support at Buckinghamshire Safe Haven.

Bucks Safe Haven offers a safe and supportive environment, alternative to A&E, for people experiencing mental health crisis.

It is staffed by Bucks Mind workers and supported by clinicians from Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Staff aim to create a supportive setting where service users can receive emotional support, plan how to keep themselves safe and be signposted to appropriate community-based services.

Safe Haven is not a drop-in service.

Christmas is a busy time for travelling, here's everything you need to know:

Chiltern Railways

Tuesday 24 December

An amended Monday-Friday timetable will operate from 15.00, with an earlier-than-usual finish.  Make sure you check your journey carefully.  

Key last trains are:

  • 20.07 Marylebone - Oxford.
  • 20.10 Marylebone - Birmingham Moor Street & Snow Hill - Stourbridge Junction.
  • 20.43 Marylebone - Banbury.
  • 20.57 Marylebone - Aylesbury Vale Parkway (via Amersham).
  • 21.13 Marylebone - Aylesbury (via High Wycombe).
  • 20.21 Aylesbury - Marylebone (via Amersham).
  • 20.55 Oxford - Marylebone.
  • 20.18 Birmingham Moor Street - Marylebone.
  • 21.39 Stratford-Upon-Avon - Banbury.

Wednesday 25 December

No services will run on Christmas Day.

Thursday 26 December

A special service of two trains per hour in each direction will operate over the following route, between approximately 0800 and 2000:  

Friday 27 December

An amended Saturday timetable will operate.  

Sunday 29 December & Monday 30 December

Due to Network Rail engineering work in the Haddenham & Thame area, the line between Princes Risborough and Bicester is closed all day Sunday 29 and Monday 30 December.

A heavily-amended timetable will operate and ALL journeys will be affected. Passengers may need to travel via alternative routes and/or on rail replacement bus services. Journey times will be considerably longer than usual. Please see route map here.

Passengers travelling between London and Banbury and north thereof are advised to travel via Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Bicester North in both directions.

Tuesday 31 December

An amended Saturday timetable will operate, with additional after-midnight services from London. Additionally, Chiltern Railways will be running extra after-midnight services from London Marylebone to help customers see in the New Year in the capital. These additional services are:  

  • 00.30 London Marylebone to Banbury  
  • 01.00 London Marylebone to High Wycombe 
  • 01.30 London Marylebone to Oxford 
  • 01.40 London Marylebone to Aylesbury (via Amersham) 
  • 02.00 London Marylebone to Aylesbury (via Princes Risborough) 
  • 02.30 London Marylebone to Banbury 
  • 02.40 London Marylebone to Aylesbury (via Amersham) 
  • 03.00 London Marylebone to Aylesbury (via Princes Risborough)

Timetable for London-Amersham-Aylesbury

Wednesday 1 January

On New Year’s Day, an amended Sunday timetable will operate. In addition to this, late-night engineering works in the Haddenham & Thame Parkway area mean that the line between Princes Risborough and Bicester is closed after 23.50.

The following services are affected as shown:

  • 23.15 Marylebone - Oxford is CANCELLED.
  • 23.30 Marylebone - Banbury terminates at Princes Risborough. Connecting buses will operate to Haddenham & Thame Parkway, Bicester Village, Oxford Parkway, Oxford, Bicester North and Banbury.
  • 00.05 Marylebone - Banbury terminates at Princes Risborough. A connecting bus will operate to Haddenham & Thame Parkway, Bicester North and Banbury.

No service except Star Travel's 5 and 5A and Metroline's 331 which will be running Sunday timetables.

Friday 27 and Monday 30 December 2019

Most bus services will run their Saturday timetables on these days. Most buses without a Saturday service will operate their normal weekday timetables.
