Aylesbury town centre development seen as huge success

This year saw Aylesbury's town centre gain a new open space and restaurants - so what's been the impact?

The Exchange opened in March, featuring restaurants, open space and public art.

We asked councillor Julie Ward, from AVDC, why it needed to happen:

"Because of the changing face of town centres and how we use them.

"It's not just about the decline in retail, which is obvious to everybody, but how we live is changing and how we use our town centres is changing and we have had top be creative and adapt to that to ensure they stay vibrant."

The first part of the development to open was the public square, featuring three new sculptures, inspired by the Paralympic heritage of the town.

Then the restaurants started arriving, to complement those opposite, which opened a few years ago.

Julie added:

"The reaction has just been wonderful, [to] the revitalisation of the town centre, but also the architecture and how it complements what we have got with the arches and the feed through to the Market Square as well."

Cllr. Ward told us they are working to fill the final unit of the development, but want to find the right business.

We'll let you know as soon as details emerge.
