Bucks businesses make a promise to the planet

NETZERO is a campaign from Buckinghamshire Business First focusing on climate change.

The promise will challenge business to not just offset their carbon footprint, but reduce it.

Philla Batting, Managing Director of BBF, says:

"Businesses have to make a change, consumers are becoming ever more discerning.

I think in particular businesses that don't look to the net zero carbon agenda will just get left behind, they'll become the Woolworths of tomorrow."

#Netzerobucks highlights the role businesses can play in reducing carbon emissions and the innovations that are allowing these reductions.

The first step to reducing carbon emissions is understanding them.

The campaign is urging businesses to start by understanding their current impact.

Philippa said:

"At Buckinghamshire Business First, we have undertaken our first audit to understand our carbon footprint and have committed to offset our emissions through paying for the planting of trees, and have now set ourselves the target of reducing our emissions in 2020-21.

"As custodians of the planet we owe it to the generations to leave the planet in a state that can sustain them. We are currently doing so much damage to the planet I think the time has come to change."

This is a big change, and so the businesses aren't expected to do it overnight.

The NetZeroBucks website has been set up allows people to share their ideas and practices with others.

Over the last 10 years, through programmes BFF has helped 1,500 businesses save over 800,000 tonnes of CO2e.

That's the equivalent of planting two new woodlands the size of Wendover Woods.
