Aylesbury's MP continues to fight against HS2

Aylesbury's MP has been raising questions about HS2 again, this time with the Chancellor.

Rob Butler was elected MP for Aylesbury in December.

During his campaign he highlighted HS2 as an issue he would confront if elected MP.

Last week he met with Sajid Javid, the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Speaking to Mix96 he said:

"I continue to believe very strongly that HS2 is the answer to no question. I don't think there is a economic case for it, I don't think there's and environment case for it. And I think it just costs way too much money overall.

Aren't there better ways to connect parts of the North? Which is one of the real reasons behind it. Northern towns wouldn't benefit until 2040 from HS2, and there are lots of other things that can be done."

The Oakervee Review is due soon but Rob worries it is not thorough enough and could still support the railline:

"The leaks suggest it's going to recommend HS2 continue, obviously I hope that is not the case.

"There's been a report by the for Deputy Chairman of that group Lord Barclay saying there are lot's of problems with it.

"I'm not going to predict exactly where this is going. What I am going to say and promise, I will continue to fight against it as long as that battle is going. If we lose that battle, we are going to fight every other battle that comes along linked to HS2."

Mr Butler also spoke about how disappointed he has been with the way local constituents and business have been treated over HS2.
