A group fighting to keep an Aston Clinton pub have confirmed it is safe.

There were plans to change Rothschild Arms, on Weston Road, into two terrace houses and a bungalow.

However, it has been announced that the pub will now become a freehouse.

The Save The Roths campaign has been fighting to save the pub.

Liz Tubb was part of the campaign:

"Its a huge relief, even euphoric. I've been fighting, with many others, for so long you think you're not going to win it.

"I think everyone is very excited because it shows that a village can win, and we did. We fought a really good campaign.

"This isn't a pub campaign this is a whole village campaign."

The site was given planning permission for new homes, after AVDC initially turned down the application.

The campaigners appealed this decision, and even started a court case against the plans that was referred to the High Court.

That was the turning point for the campaign as the referral from the judge resulted in Punch brewery discontinuing the case.

Talks then began between Punch and the campaigners.

Thankfully, a deal has been reached and with contracts to sign, completion on the pub is due soon.

The Rothschild Arms will remain but under new ownership.

Liz says everyone is relieved:

"Things have taken a huge turn for the better. After completion Stuart and Gemma Ladyman will own the Rothschild Arms, and it will become a freehouse.

"So our campaign was a huge success. Its almost a case of the little man winning against the big man, although that's not quite how it was.

"Everyone is quite delighted and cant wait for it to be open again. I believe the plan is to have some refurbishments works inside and then hopefully a huge party."
