Aylesbury's MP says we need to get past Brexit

Published by Dan Gooding at 11:36am 22nd January 2020.

As the EU Withdrawal Bill goes through the House of Lords today, we have been chatting to Aylesbury's MP.

We wanted to discuss with him what comes next with Brexit and beyond.

Rob Butler has backed the Prime Minister's plan and he says we need to move on sooner rather than later:

"We want to then have the time to focus on the issues that people care about.

"Like the health service, where we will increase the number of nurses, we will increase the number of GPs so people don't wait weeks and weeks to get an appointment.

"We will also make sure we get the police we need to tackle rural crime."

We are due to leave the EU on the 31st January, if legislation goes through smoothly.

But then what happens, when so many people voted against Brexit?

Rob said we need to move on after the end of the month:

"A big part of that is uniting the country, whatever people voted for.

"That's something the Prime Minister has made very, very clear.

"The role I want to play in that is by talking to people, however they voted in the referendum, and saying 'look, let's think about what we want as our joint priorities for the future.'"
