After 37 years of service, Val McPherson has been recognised for her dedication to the organisation.

Val joined in the 1980's after her house was burgled leaving her feeling unsafe and frustrated.

Over the years Val has held many titles, including until recently Chair of the Thames Valley Neighbourhood Watch Association.

"To me its like being in a large family; helping each other, being friendly, understanding and listening.

"But mainly, Neighbourhood Watch is about crime prevention."

Since joining she says things have changed:

"When I started it was about mainly burglary. But not Neighbourhood Watch has changed so so much.

"We are having knife crime, we are having cyber crime. Then you've got modern slavery and terrorism.

"But I still believe Neighbourhood Watch does work, it is not 100% but by being in the organisation it does help you prevent being a victim of crime."

Val remains as Area Co-ordinator for Longwick/ Ilmer/Owlseick & Little Meadle NHW and Vice Chair Princes Risborough & District NHW Association
