Bucks students get a taste of power

Young people from The Buckingham School will be visiting The Gateway today.

Those involved will act out a Council Committee meeting scenario.

Cabinet Members and Councillors will be sharing what each position means, key skills needed and the impact of the decisions made by local committees.

The goal is to educate them about what goes in to making local government decisions.

The mock meeting with focus on the role people can play in protecting the environment.

The group will express their views, explore the work of the council and hear issues/put forward proposals they feel are important for this mater.

These comments will be shared with the senior management team and cabinet, helping to inform local plans and raise awareness for young people position on the environment.

Jenifer Cameron, Chief Executive of Action4Youth said:

"Buckinghamshire County Council has created a truly unique and engaging opportunity for the young people involved in The Inspiration Programme, and we're really excited to see the results.

"How many people can say that they have worn the Chairman's chains and banged the gavel for order in a council meeting?

"The programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get inside the different organisations and services that contribute to society, giving them a much better understanding of the world around them and a better focus on their own futures."

Action4Youth provides inspiring, and hopefully transformational, experiences and activities for children and young people.
