Another Bucks school joins walking map scheme

Another Bucks school joins walking map scheme

More children are being encouraged to walk to school in Aylesbury Vale.

A new walking map is being unveiled at Stoke Mandeville Combined School today - the latest in a series across Bucks.

The idea is to show alternative routes for families who might usually drive right to the school gate.

We talked about the project as part of our Safe Steps to School campaign in 2018, where we heard how walking could actually take the same amount of time as driving.

That is once you factor in traffic and finding places to park near a school.

We met Paul Durr, from the group Living Streets, who worked with schools in Bucks to promote walking to school.

He said:

"The number of cars turning up at the start of school, the end of school causes all sorts of problems.

"There is congestion, parking issues, unsafe manoeuvring and, of course, the pollution which is put into the air right near our children."

Today's event in Stoke Mandeville will see Aylesbury MP Rob Butler helping to launch the map.
