Scammers target Vale of Aylesbury Housing tenants

Residents of the Vale of Aylesbury Housing trust are being warned against scam calls.

Tenants are being warned to be vigilant when it comes to callers asking for bank details.

It's after a scam caller targeted a VoAH resident claiming to work for the council.

The resident was told they needed to pass on bank details in order to set up boiler breakdown cover.

Kate Ayala, Communications and Communities Manager says:

“Our residents do not need breakdown cover for boilers; the Trust is responsible for repairs for tenants, and we manage all warranties from our Repairs team.

“Increasingly, the unscrupulous prey on the vulnerable with plausible-sounding scams like this. It does not just affect our residents, so we wanted to remind people to be very careful before giving personal information and bank details over the phone.

“It is always worth checking the phone number against websites like ‘Who Called Me?’ which highlight suspicious and dangerous numbers, or contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

“If in any doubt, don’t pass on any information.”
