Popular village pub to close in Aylesbury Vale

A popular pub in Aylesbury Vale is having to close, with plans for homes to be built on its car park.

The landlords of the Rose and Crown in Stone say they have made the decision 'with an extremely heavy heart' to shut down next month.

They added that they're sorry they were unable to save the village's local, partially putting this down to the opening of two other pubs in the area.

In a post shared on Facebook, Chris and Carmel said that the pub has actually been for sale since November 2018.

That was only a year after they bought out the freehold from Punch in 2017, investing much of their own money to try and make a success of the pub.

They said:

"Having successfully turned around our previous pub we optimistically put our heart, soul and life savings into making The Rose & Crown a success, but sadly it wasn’t to be."

The pub is due to close on Sunday 8th March, but there will be a sale of fixtures and stock starting this week to start paying off some creditors.

The landlords added:

"The Rose and Crown has some extremely loyal customers, many of whom we now class not only as customers, but as friends. We are desperately sorry for you that we are having to take these steps. However, the simple fact is that there are not enough of you to prevent the pub running at a loss.

"From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being customers since we came here in 2017. We are extremely sorry that we couldn’t save your local."
