Thames Valley police have started their seven days of cyber security today.

'Protect your world' is a week long campaign by TVP on cyber security and the online world.

The campaign has been launched today to coincide with national Safer Internet Day.

The week will offer advice and useful information about how people can protect themselves online.

Each day will see a specific area of cyber security looked at:

  • Tuesday 11 February - Use a strong password
  • Wednesday 12 February - Watch out for fake phishing emails
  • Thursday 13 February - Use Two Factor Authentication (2FA)
  • Friday 14 February - Use a password manager
  • Saturday 15 February - Back up your most important data
  • Sunday 16 February - Install software and app updates
  • Monday 17 February - Secure your social media

These seven basic steps have been chosen as they are the starting point for creating a secure presence online and should be seen as necessary if using the web or sharing information online.

There will also be a Facebook Live on Thursday evening where people will be able to ask questions and receive an immediate response.
