Aylesbury 4-year-old can't talk, walk or crawl & needs your help

Published by Dan Gooding at 5:43am 13th February 2020.

A family in Aylesbury are dealing with seeing their 2-year-old able to do so much more than their 4-year-old.

So they need your help.

Because of a rare condition, Fletcher Thompson can't talk, walk or even crawl and his parents want to build an extension so he can have a much better quality of life.

His mum Amie said:

"From a young age, probably about five months, I just knew there was something wrong.

"At baby groups, he wasn't doing what other babies were doing and it probably took us until about 10 months for the health visitor to agree with me."

Amie took Fletcher to several clinics and they eventually got the Microdeletion syndrome diagnosis.

There are only around 200 cases in the world and Amie told us she feels they are often teaching doctors about it.

"It's really hard on us as a family, it has impacted everyday living with us.

"So we have got to lift Fletcher, carry him from room to room, feed him.

"A 4-year-old should be able to do that by himself."

She said it's hard seeing Fletcher's younger brother being able to do much more than he can.

What next?

Now, after getting some initial funding and permission to build, they are trying to raise £15,000 to create a fully-accessible extension to their home in Aylesbury.

It would mean a new bedroom and bathroom and allow more quality family time.

Amie added:

"It's really hard to put into words, but it will just mean everything to us.

"We can just be a normal family at the end of the day and the four of us can sit down and eat meals together, which we can't do at the moment.

"He's a normal child, he deserves the best we can give him."
