'Happy to Chat' benches arrive in Aylesbury Vale

Aylesbury Vale now has three 'Happy to Chat' benches.

Aylesbury Vale District Council has launched them to combat social isolation, an issue which affects over 9 million people in the UK.

Two are in Aylesbury town centre with one on The Mount and the other in Vale Park.

The third is on the Waddesdon Greenway in Fleet Marston.

The benches have a sign on saying ‘Sit here if you don’t mind someone stopping to say hello’.

Councillor Julie Ward, from AVDC, says they are for everyone to use:

"I think its important to recognise loneliness and social isolation don't just affect any particular generation.

"You may be a young mum alone a lot, or have just moved to the town. There are lots of circumstances that can leave someone feeling lonely, or just wanting to talk.

"They can combat loneliness, social isolation and maybe just to promote the art of conversation again which seems to be getting lost."

They've been brought in by AVDC with Aylesbury Garden Town's support, and if popular could be the first of many.
