Plans for A413 speed reduction on hold

Feedback has been listened to and a speed limit change on the A413 near Aylesbury won't happen.

The A413 north of Buckingham Park to Whitchurch could have gone from a 60mph to a 50mph zone in an attempt to make it safer, but not for now.

The County Council asked for our views early last year and many of those opinions were that it wouldn't make a difference.

That is because when it is busy, traffic goes at around 50mph anyway.

Most of the time, accidents on that stretch are caused by driver error and not because of people going at 60 miles an hour.

There was also a view that those who dangerously overtake now would do so still if the limit was adjusted, as some drivers will always go slower than the limit anyway.

Cllr Netta Glover has reviewed the proposed measures subsequent objections and feedback and made the following comments:

“I believe that since the new road lining has been put in place that speeds have reduced.

"If we can produce the evidence that this is correct then we should wait for more feedback till after the winter.

"One of the things that worries me about 50mph is that opportunistic drivers frequently overtake those sticking to the speed limit. ”

New markings and layouts were brought in at the end of 2018 as well and BCC's report says those seem to be making more of a difference.

Plans are now on hold, with no exact plans to review this decision yet.
