Aylesbury MP happy with numbers of new police officers

Aylesbury's MP says he's really pleased with the number of new police officers arriving in the area.

Rob Butler has been meeting emergency service leads as he gets to know the area.

He told us the Tory promise of more officers is already being put into action:

"The number i have been given, I am really pleased about.

"Let me say I think it's more than the average that we might have expected, so I'm really happy about that.

"The police know that I am very committed to seeing a town centre that is incredibly safe and secure."

Rob will be spending a Friday night shift with TVP soon and says fighting rural crime is also a target for him.

He added:

"I am going to be spending the whole shift with them, looking at what they get up to and the challenges they face.

"That is so that I can do whatever I can to help them, as well, to make sure that this is a town which is safe and secure and to ensure that in the countryside and in the villages, rural crime is taken incredibly seriously."

The government committed to bringing in an extra 20,000 officers across the country during the general election in December.
