Anti-HS2 campaigners meet in Wendover tonight

A Wendover campaign group are meeting tonight over HS2.

Following the confirmation that HS2 will go ahead, Wendover Active Resistance (WAR) Camp are holding an information evening tonight.

The information evening will include guests aiming to educate people on the affects of the railway.

Ross is from the group:

"The impact on the community is going to be huge.

"We are talking about noise disruption, they're gonna run 18 trains an hour. We've already had cases where people have had their land grabbed and haven't been paid, there are people that have been made homeless by this project in Wendover.

"We're really here to support the community and build a resistance to the HS2 line."

A hyrdo-geologist will be attending to explain the impact of the planned green tunnel, as well as other speakers including someone from the Badgers Trust who will talk about the environmental impact.

This week saw Aylesbury MP Rob Butler question the Transport Secretary over the rejection of a tunnel through Wendover.

The evening wants to educate people on the latest stages of plans, but most importantly to bring local people together to discuss their feelings.

Ross says this is important:

"It's about bringing people together. We've been on the ground for about just over 2 months and there's a lot of local engagement but a lot of individuals feel like they're standing alone.

We want to bring those individuals together to have a discussion."

The meeting is at the British Legion in Wendover at 7pm.
