Chiltern Brewery celebrating 40th anniversary

A Buckinghamshire brewery is celebrating 40 years.

This year Chiltern Brewery have been brewing ales and beers in Buckinghamshire for 40 years, and are marking the celebration with special beers and events.

The family run business in Aylesbury was opened by Richard and Lesley Jenkinson in 1980 and is now run by their sons George and Tom Jenkinson.

One way they are celebrating is the release of their first bottle beer, a sparkling champagne style ale which they brewed at the start of their anniversary year back in September.

Tom explains why local brewery's are important:

"It is genuinely a home brew kit that grew out of an interest.

"Pub brewery's and pubs fill such a unique part of British and local lives. I think of all the industries you've seen disappear of the years its great to see the growth in brewery's.

"They provide a point where you can meet people and talk about the issues of life. You can do it over a celebration and all sorts."

Another way they're marking the special year they have made four special draft beers that will be available through the year, where you can enjoy them at the brewery shop, the Kings Head in Aylesbury and other pubs they supply.

Although a family run business at heart, Tom tried his hands at other jobs before coming into the brewing business.

Mix96 asked whether he has any regrets:

"There's no doubt about it, delighted. It does stretch you running your own business. It's far more rewarding, certainly for me it's been great.

"I used to dream about delivering beer around the Chiltern's. Just being out of the office meeting really people, it can be estate agents it can be designers. For me its about having that variety, its working with great people and visiting your customers."
