Aylesbury childminder bringing joy to care home residents

A local childminder is bringing joy to residents of an Aylesbury care home.

Jade is an Aylesbury based childminder, who visit MHA Hillside in the town centre every Friday during term time.

At 10.30am residents gather to begin an informal session with the children.

Jola is one of the activities coordinators for the care home:

"We have had a few residents who started engaging because of that. It's always good for the residents, inter-generational interaction.

"For some of them it is the only activity they participate in, they become more active I would say."

Recent studies have found that physical and mental well being is improved when elderly people interact with children.

Some residents come and go, others join in and a few watch from the outside. All of them have a smile and seem to really enjoy the session.

Jade, from Jades Daycare, says the children also gain from the sessions:

"They love coming to visit the residents. I think its really nice for them to show empathy, and to help out. The needs of the residents vary loads and its very different.

"We just come in we do some singing, play some games and just have some play and fun time."

Jola and Jade would encourage other nurseries and care homes to look at starting similar sessions.
