6 miles of damage disrupts train services from Tring & Berkhamsted

Fewer trains are running on the line through Tring, Berkhamsted & Leighton Buzzard this morning.

Over the weekend, over 6 miles of overhead power cables were damaged between Milton Keynes and London Euston.

To ease congestion only 3 of the 4 tracks between Watford and London will be open, Avanti West Coast, Southern Railway and London Northwestern Railway will be running a reduced service.

Services are expected to be particularly disrupted from Tring, Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead, Apsley, Kings Langley, Watford Junction, Bushey and Harrow & Wealdstone.

LNW have arranged for a shuttle bus to run between Hemel Hempstead, Apsley, Kings Langley and Watford Junction.

If you have your own transport, they suggest the following alternatives if you are travelling to London, as London Northwestern Railway tickets will be accepted for travel all day:

  • Tring - use Wendover
  • Berkhamsted - use St. Albans City
  • Hemel Hempstead - use St. Albans City

In a statement on their website, the company said:

We're extremely sorry for any disruption to your journey while Network Rail fix the problem.

Please remember to claim Delay Repay if you are delayed by 15 minutes or more at However, as we will be running a revised timetable on Monday, your usual train may not be listed on this automated system. If that's the case, the best advice is to pick up and complete a Freepost Delay Repay form - they're available from all staffed stations.
