Uncertain start for new Bucks Council

Bucks new unitary council is set for an uncertain start.

It has been announced that mayoral and local elections, including here in Buckinghamshire, have been postponed following the coronavirus outbreak.

It means that Bucks may not get a new elected council for several months.

Launching April 1st the new council will see 5 local district and county councils join together.

An interim council had been set up to look after the new council until the elections this May.

These have now been moved to 2021 in an attempt to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, which throws the roles of Buckinghamshire's potential new Councillors into doubt.

The new Buckinghamshire Council Chief Executive, Rachael Shimmin, said:

"We are actively in discussion with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government about how we handle the year ahead and will consider a number of options next week."

Mix96 will bring the the latest on Bucks Council as we get it.
