Sports clubs close in reaction to coronavirus

Various sports clubs in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding area have closed because of coronavirus.

Aylesbury Vale Dynamos released a statement last night:

After this evening's Government update, we have no option but to close the club for business as of tonight for as long as necessary.

It's impossible to avoid the close interaction between customers and staff in this kind of setting.

It is part of our duty as a Committee to protect our staff and also protect our members and local community.

Aylesbury United's matches had already been postponed for the next few weeks, with another update planned for this Friday.

Tring Athletic and Risborough Rangers are also affected:

Meanwhile Chinnor Rugby Club have also decided to close for the foreseeable future.

They have made the move in line with the Rugby Football Union.

Their statement said:

Chinnor RFC Thame would like to express its full support of the decision, which includes club training, league and cup matches plus rugby education courses from March 17 - April 14 subject to continued review.

The RFU has said it will continue to "monitor government advice and will provide detailed updates on the impact to the season in the coming weeks".

We will keep everyone informed of any developments, while an update will be provided with regards to non-playing events at the club in the next 24 hours.

The Inter-Spinal Unit Games at Stoke Mandeville Stadium have also been called off:
