More congestion in Aylesbury than Birmingham

Commuters spend longer in traffic around Aylesbury than in Birmingham.

The level of traffic across the UK, including here in Aylesbury has been analysed by Inrix.

The traffic and travel company have gathered data and created a scorecard which gives areas rankings.

One figure given is the average amount of time spent in congestion for motorists in 2019, Aylesbury's figures stands at 81.

This is above cities like Birmingham, which has a ranking of 80 hours.

Paul Irwin is Deputy Manager for Transport at Buckinghamshire County Council, he says they are aware of the issues on local roads:

"Aylesbury has a major problem, it's one of the worst congested towns in the country. In a way that's good because now we've got the proof now to get us more funds."

He told Mix96 there are other factors to look at when comparing the town to cities like Birmingham though:

"It's a big concern and a big problem. The difference between us and them is that they have a much better infrastructure.

"They have a lot more trains, a lot more buses and they're built for that because they're a city.  Aylesbury is far down the pecking order for money but we are getting there, the government are starting to realise that we need help."

Last week £170 million was awarded to the area to support infrastructure and Paul explained that some of this money will go towards roads.
