PM announces UK lockdown

New measures to tackle coronavirus have been announced by the Prime Minister this evening.

Boris Johnson has put the country on ‘lockdown’ as of tonight.

He said it was vital to slow the spread of the disease and protect the NHS.

Mr. Johnson said the time had come to do more, saying we can only leave our homes now for:

  • Essential groceries/necessities
  • One form of exercise a day
  • Travelling to & from work if it is essential and we can only do so from home.

Gatherings of two or more people will be dispersed.

Police will have the power to enforce these measures.

Mr. Johnson said he knew the country would ‘rise to the challenge’ and help beat coronavirus together.

These measures will be in place for three weeks initially.
