Uncertain future as Bucks and Herts hospice shops close

Like many, one hospice is struggling with an uncertain future.

Rennie Grove has stores across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire all of which have now closed.

This, and the suspension of most fundraising events, means the money coming in has stopped almost overnight.

Tracey is in charge of fundraising at Rennie Grove Hospice Care:

"All of the sources of income we rely on to fund the service have stopped. We have to raise 89% of the costs to run the service every year, that is around £8 million and our income is set to drop around 50% right now.

"Current money will not last forever, so the impact it will have ultimately is the service could be affected. So the amount of people we could see... The area we could cover..."

To combat this shortfall people are being asked, where they can, to donate money so they can continue to provide the care for local people.

They have set up a fundraising page for those who want to and are able to help them.

Tracey explained that going forward their service is likely to be more needed than ever:

"The important thing is by caring for these people are home we are keeping them out of hospital.

"If the service wasn't there the potential is those people might need to be admitted to hospital and as we know hospital beds are at a premium. Hospitals are overwhelmed with the numbers they are having to deal with as part of the pandemic."
