Aylesbury woman celebrates 100th birthday despite lockdown

One Buckinghamshire woman is celebrating her 100th birthday today whilst in lockdown.

Marion Lubiewski is turning 100 today and her family have had to rearrange their celebrations following government advice.

Marion, who lives at Lakeside Nursing Home on the edge of Aylesbury, was born April 1 1920 and brought her children up in Buckinghamshire.

Mother of four, she is the matriarch of her family with grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren sending her birthday wishes.

A gathering had been planned at her nursing home, however given her age and social distancing rules this had to be cancelled.

Instead Sue, one of her two daughters, will be visting with a cake, although not the special one planned, and staying outside.

It will be difficult, but Sue says something has to be done:

"Mum has always been there for the family. Her whole hundred years she has always been there for people.

"To turn 100 is quite an achievement, so we didn't want it to pass by without marking the occasion, albeit a lot smaller than we had hoped."

One thing remains unchanged though, Marion will be receiving a special card:

"Yep, we've got the card from the Queen coming. I've had an email from Buckingham Palace saying it is coming today.

"The staff at the home will help mum look at it and realise what it is... I don't think Mum realises she is going to be 100! I think in her mind she is still quite young!"

Although today's celebration were not what the family had planned once restrictions are lifted all five generations are planning to come together to celebrate Marion as she deserves.
