Advice for Bucks couples during lockdown

Buckinghamshire couples are being advised on how to cope with lockdown.

Relate is a relationship counselling service operating through Buckinghamshire and Mid Thames sharing advice on coping with extra stress at this time.

Couples, both new and old, are finding themselves in a strange and stressful situation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

This can for many mean tension in the relationship.

Pamela works for Relate and says using different rooms in the house can help but communication is also advised:

"Being able to talk, maybe at one point in the day is helpful, it's helpful to be constantly talking about the stresses, strains and worries.

"Being able to talk, not just about what your worried about, but also what you think is going well... It is good to focus on the positives of spending time together."

Pamela says that this time can also be used as a positive:

"I think this is potentially a wonderful gift to couples and families.

"We are often asset right and time poor... Well now we have this wonderful time to be with each other"

She also wants people to remember that the situation the world is in will cause strain of a lot of relationships.

It is important to recognise when external factors are negatively impacting a relationship, and "to pick your battles" at a time like this.
