Fund set up by Bucks' NHS for its staff

The NHS in Buckinghamshire is trying to raise £10,000 to help doctors, nurses and other staff feel better.

Many NHS staff are working longer shifts, extra days and are having to spend a lot of time away from their home and their families.

Bucks Healthcare Chief Executive Neil MacDonald told us there is a lot of pressure from COVID-19:

"There are certain parts of the organisation that are experiencing significant stress as they deal with the inevitable demand of very poorly patients as a result of this virus.

"I've got a lot of people working in unfamiliar roles, very long hours and in very stressful situations and to be quite frank my friends and colleagues are putting their own personal safety on the line to look after others."

So the Trust have started a Covid-19 Staff Wellbeing Appeal.

Staff have been putting in long hours at sites including Stoke Mandeville Hospital

It is hoped the money raised will allow them to provide wellbeing packs for colleagues who are unable to go home or who are working long shifts and enable bosses to provide comfortable areas for staff to sleep or take breaks in during the pandemic.

Neil added:

"I am both humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity shown to BHT staff from the local community.

"People have been asking how they can help so we've set up the fund on JustGiving to enable us to coordinate donations.

"Thank you for continuing to support our staff during this difficult time."

They are asking us to remember that by staying at home we are saving lives, stopping the spread of coronavirus and enabling the NHS to continue to look after those who need it most.
