A helium unicorn balloon has left a little horse in Quainton with horrible injuries.

It got tangled around the 9-month-old on Monday.

The balloon became tangled around her neck and she panicked as it flapped in the wind.

She tried to jump out the field and got caught up on the post.

You can see pictures of the injury, which you might find upsetting, further down the page.

After three hours of emergency care by Aylesbury's Hampden vets, they won't know if she will make a full recovery for several weeks and then can expect 3-6 months of box rest and then physio, if it goes well.

Owner Esme said:

"Please can people be especially careful with helium balloon which can travel miles.

"It's ironic that the owner of the unicorn balloon probably loves horses and yet it's release has caused such terrible injuries to my real life unicorn."
