Wendover mental health charity needs help to survive coronavirus lockdown

A mental health charity in Wendover are worried for their future, saying they'll be needed more than ever when lockdown is over.

Lindengate are one of many groups facing uncertainty, as they can't operate their garden now and so government cash might not be an option.

It is only on offer to those still operating at the moment, but when the Wendover group need to support people in person through gardening, that isn't possible.

Lindengate Gardeners
Lindengate's garden is normally full of people benefiting from therapy

Charlie Powell told us the team want to be there for people struggling with the mental impact of the virus:

"We feel that a lot of people will feel their wellbeing will have dropped, particularly the guys working in the front of it, like in the NHS and police.

"Because we will be supporting people with their wellbeing, we need to be around when they are allowed out again.

"The NHS needs people like us to support them coming out of it, otherwise the people we normally help will be banging on the doors of the GPs and mental health services."

Lindengate have had to furlough 68% of their staff.

They are determined to ensure the whole team can continue to be paid, so they remain for when the garden, next to Dobbies, reopens.

The feeling is that it is vital that continuity is provided for the Gardeners and this means that the team must remain in place so old relationships can re-engage when this happens.

It also means ensuring that the site is kept healthy and the horticultural and site staff are able to maintain our gardens so they are fit for purpose later in the year.

We are also being encouraged to engage with nature however we can at this time, to improveo ur mental health:
