Aylesbury Garden Town is looking to encourage eating healthy and gardening.

Gardeners from across the town are being asked to help encourage people to eat healthily during the coronavirus crisis by Aylesbury Garden Town.

The project  called 'Let's Get Growing' calls on anyone interested in growing their own produce, whether they've started or not, to join the group.

Many people across the country have turned to gardening during lockdown as a way to focus their energy and produce home food.

Being outdoors and looking after seeds/plants is also linked to improving mood.

Chairman of the Aylesbury Garden Town Board, Councillor Bill Chapple OBE, who has an allotment himself, said:

“We hope that everyone who’s growing their own fruit and vegetables in Aylesbury will get involved in the Let’s Get Growing community network. Staying healthy is a top priority at the moment and nutritious food makes a big difference to our well being. It’s also very satisfying to eat something delicious that you’ve grown yourself and it doesn’t have to be a huge quantity, something simple like a tomato plant is a great place to start.”

Those without outdoor spaces are being encouraged to look at plants that can be grown in pots indoors.

Working in partnership with Community GROW, the aim of the group is to connect a network of gardeners up so tips and progress can be exchange.

If you’d like to have a go at growing, but don’t have any seeds, Aylesbury Garden Town has a limited supply, just join the Facebook group at Aylesbury Garden Town’s Let’s Get Growing to find out more.
