Aylesbury Vale village pub saved as regulars donate £15k

People in Ivinghoe have really got behind their local, raising £15,000 in just 48 hours.

The Rose and Crown pub have been able to pay their bills and staff over the past few weeks since lockdown, but landlord Mick Bushnell put out this video plea a few days ago:

In the video he says:

"If we have to borrow some money, I would rather borrow it from the neighbours than the bank.

"So if anyone can help, that would be fantastic.

"So stay healthy, see you on the other side."

Since then, regulars have crowdfunded thousands, in exchange for future bar tabs and meals.

Mick said:

"[We are] looking to our friends and our regulars and our neighbours to see if anybody would like to pre-buy a bar tab, maybe buy some drinks, a meal.

"Looking to the future, we will absolutely be able to redeem those, at a discount, as soon as we're open."

Different levels of pledges will lead to different 'rewards' in the future.

All of these are explained on the crowdfunding page.

It's hoped this means the pub will be around for a while yet when it reopens and Mick told us other pubs could benefit from the scheme.

He added:

"The crowndfunding campaign has been brilliant. It says so much about the local community and spirit within the village.

"Hopefully this will allow us to see out the next few months until we can start to open up again safely without having to borrow any money from the bank."
