Bucks man's letter about loss of wife to Covid-19 goes viral

A letter from a man in Buckinghamshire to his MP, reacting to the news which has dominated the weekend, has been shared thousands of times.

John Wilson, from Whitchurch, lost his wife to coronavirus at the end of March.

He has written to Greg Smith, asking what he thinks about Boris Johnson's reaction to stories about adviser Dominic Cummings over the past few days.

"On the day she died, I could not be with her to hold her hand..."

That letter was shared on Twitter this morning (Mon) and in just four hours has been shared over 14,000 times.

John talks about how he could not see his wife's body and has only left the house since to collect her ashes and then for essential trips to the shops.

He says:

"In other words under severe mental and emotional distress I, like the vast majority of the population, have complied with your government's instructions in order to protect my fellow citizens...

"...Please spare me the deepest sympathy/thoughts and prayers stuff - we are beyond that after yesterday."

John said he wanted it to be clear the letter is about the Prime Minister's conduct and not that of the adviser.

As yet, Mr. Smith has not replied or responded to this letter publicly.
