Drivers in Tring and Berkhamstead reminded to slow down

Police in Tring and Berkhamstead are stepping up speed checks in the area.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team in Dacorum are supporting the National Police Chiefs' Council's fortnight of action against speeding which started this week.

With the help of residents engaging in recent online chats via the community messaging service, Online Watch Link (OWL) these areas and the surrounding villages have been identified as known hotspots.

It comes as drivers make a return to the roads following the relaxation of the Governments travel restrictions.

Inspector Jeffrey Scott, who leads the four Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Dacorum, said:

"During lockdown, the county's roads were considerably quieter as everyone began to work from home, meaning less cars on the roads - especially at either end of the day. Unfortunately it has also led to instances of speeding, which we are in the process of addressing.
"With some people returning to work and the Government making it clear we are able to drive to a location to exercise, it's very important that everyone takes extra care when travelling on the roads.
"The easiest way to do this is to reduce your speed, consider others and adjust your driving to the circumstances. Driving at an appropriate speed means you have more time to react to potential dangers and more vulnerable road users, such as cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians crossing the road. It could be the difference in saving a life. Please, drive to arrive."

You can report any incidents of anti-social  driving or any other Covid-19 related crime online.
