Aylesbury Special Constables thanked for their work

Special Constables in Aylesbury are being thanked for their work.

Aylesbury Vale's Special Constables have put in over 550 hours of voluntary patrolling over the past month.

When taking on the role the minimum requirement is 18 hours a month.

Neil Flint is a Special Constable and explains what the role has given him:

"I can't put my finger on what I wanted to get out of it, it was just a sense of being able to help people. It has far exceeded expectation.

"I come out of every shift, the tough ones and the more community spirited ones, absolutely glowing and feeling like I've really done something worthwhile.

"It makes me appreciate more what I have got around me. It makes me value everything that I'm fortunate to have around my life and recognise that unfortunately there's a lot of people who don't have that."

The role of Special Constable is one people apply for to fit around family, work and other commitments.

They work alongside regular officers with the same powers, uniform and core training.

Inspector Darren Deane leads an emergency response team in Aylesbury and works closely with Special Constables, including in their recruitment:

"They've been attending a lot of calls around COVID-19, which has then meant our regular patrols have been able to our normal service calls.

"From a Duty Inspectors point of view the input they have had has been absolutely invaluable."

Aylesbury's Superintendent Mike Loebenberg has been among those praising the work these people do, especially recently.

He is urging anyone interested in applying for the position to contact Inspector Darren Deane at Aylesbury Police Station, through private messaging on their social media or their contact form.

More information on the role along with guidelines on applying can be found on their webpage.
