Bomb disposal called up to Ashridge

A suspicious item was found near Berkhamsted on Friday afternoon, with the bomb disposal unit called in.

A member of the public saw what appeared to be an unexploded hand grenade from World War Two on the Ashridge estate.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team and Intervention Team A were called up to the scene, just near a public footpath.

Officers were quickly dispatched to close off the area and make sure there were no people (or deer) nearby.

Colleagues at the Royal Logistical Corps were called to make the device safe and ultimately it was decided the device had to be dealt with by a controlled explosion due to the amount of time it had been there.

In a post on Facebook, Dacorum's police said that 'needless to say it made a bit of a bang'.

The area has now been re-opened.
