Council respond to Aylesbury residents' road safety fears

New crossings have been announced for part of Aylesbury, where a petition had been started.

Berryfields residents created a petition for Buckinghamshire Council to consider over road safety.

They were calling for road safety issues to be recognised and addressed.

With particularly concerns over the area near Aylesbury Vale Academy School and want a new pedestrian crossing to be put in place.

The petition reads:

"There is road laid by the Taylor Wimpey which is useful but it is also dangerous as it doesn't have a signal or pedestrian crossing on the road. We are very much worried to walk down or cross the road with kids on the buggy and disabled using wheelchair as the swivel get stuck on the paving slabs while crossing the road.

"It's very difficult to cross this road safely as it is close to the mini roundabouts and meeting roads with speeding cars. We have more young families with kids in our community, so please put the signs of children playing and caution sign everywhere appropriate.

"I request the Buckinghamshire council to come and view the situation and action on the solution for the safety of our residents.

"I hope our Parish council has raised this issue earlier but things haven't been sorted yet. Please don't wait until the accident happens, thank you."

241 signed the ePetition and Buckinghamshire Council have now announced 3 new zebra crossings are planned for the area.

Crossings will be put in near Aylesbury Vale Academy

They say that the work for these has been delayed due to COVID-19 but should resume by August.

Cllr Nick Naylor, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

"There are plans in place to install three zebra crossings close to Aylesbury Vale Academy and Berryfields Primary School. Two of the crossings will be on Paradise Orchard and one on Collington Road.

"Unfortunately, the coronavirus outbreak has held up the commencement of these works - which will be undertaken by the Berryfields developers. However, we are hoping that development work in Berryfields will be able to restart in August, and we've asked the developers to prioritise the area next to the school, so we can get the three zebra crossings installed as soon as possible."
