Aylesbury Scouts need help buying their land

Aylesbury scout groups are being offered a chance to protect their future.

Bedgrove Scout and Guide groups are currently leasing the area they use, however they have been given the chance to buy the area.

This would allow them to safeguard the groups for years to come and make their refurbishment plans easier.

Alex, Chairman for the Bedgrove Scout & Guide HQ Committee, says its an amazing opportunity:

"We have been offered an amazing opportunity and we've absolutely jumped on it.

"We would be foolish not to safeguard scouting and guiding in Bedgrove for generations.

"Anyone who leases their house will know it isn't yours, you don't own it. While our else is 50 years it goes in a heartbeat and you can't invest in what you want to do."

The group have been given 6 months to raise the money they need to buy the land.

The group have set up a donation page however, their usual fundraising options can't happen because of coronavirus.

Alex says they're still determined to try:

"Fundraising in the current climate is really difficult because we can't do anything face to face.

"So we can't do car washing... We can't do bag packing... Everything has got to be remote.

"We absolutely have to take advantage of this and develop fundraising strategies that will work."

Some of the members are even lending a hand, Layla has sent up her own fundraising page and is going to be doing a gymnastics challenge to help, saying :

“I really like Beavers and I want to make sure I can keep going every week”
