Aylesbury mayor's call to support youth charity

Nearly £20,000 has been raised by Aylesbury's mayor to support vulnerable young adults and now he's pledged more help.

Mike Smith is trying to fund Youth Concern's counselling service, which is in high demand at the moment.

This is being done through 'Councillors for Counselling', a new campaign from the charity.

The Mayor chose to support Youth Concern during his year in office and raised a record £19,400 - the most any Mayor's ever raised for his/her charity!

As a final hurrah, he said:

"I'd really like to continue raising more funds for and awareness of Youth Concern even though my Mayoral activities are on hold for the moment.

"The charity's counselling services continue to be in very high demand, but delivering them without the usual drop-in centre is of course very challenging."

13-25-year-olds have been severely affected when it comes to their mental health during the pandemic.

Mike added:

"Young people can struggle with the kind of problems you wouldn't want anyone to go through.

"Things like homelessness, family problems, mental health issues, and I think you people deserve support."
