Crime rises by 8% in the Thames Valley

Police figures show 174,111 offences were recorded in the year to March.

Crime rises by 8% in the Thames Valley

Drug offences are up 23 per-cent on last year in the Thames Valley.

That is one of the headlines from the latest yearly stats for crime across England & Wales.

Overall, crime is up 8% here compared to March 2019.

Here are some of the headline figures:

  • Violence against the person is up 16%, to 55,435.
  • We saw 19 homicides in the last year
  • Stalking & harassment claims are up 40%, whilst sex offences rose by 7%
  • Burglary is down by 5%, one of the only areas to see a drop
  • 6,025 drug offences were recorded
  • 1,666 possession of an offensive weapon incidents were recorded

Other areas of crime covered


The figures include when a knife or sharp instrument has been involved in a crime.

Here in the Thames Valley, 1,591 offences included that in the past year, around 7% of overall offences.

That compares with ten years ago when 1,165 such offences were noted.

When it came to anti-social behaviour, there has been a big fall in  reports compared to a decade ago.

In the year to March 2010, 97,650 occurrences were reported, dropping to 28,608 in the last year.
