Coach company take fight to Westminster streets

A Tring coach company have taken to the streets in Westminster to let the government know that their industry is 'on its knees'.

On Monday, Masons Minibus and Coach Hire joined many other companies from across the UK in a protest outside the Houses of Parliament.

We first met the company in May when the struggles began.

Candice Mason told us why they needed to do this:

"We have significantly struggled during Covid-19 and have been unable to access many of the grants and financial support that has been made available by the government.

"As an industry, we are on our knees.

"We have taken cancellations of nearly a quarter of a million pound and this is continuing."

That's being put down to people not feeling ready to travel on coaches, especially following the government's message not to use public transport.

500 coaches drove around outside Parliament yesterday, to try and get ministers to listen.

The industry say they feel left out of government support schemes, despite promises that no companies in the leisure industry would miss out on help.

Candice argues that they have done all they can to comply with health and safety and emissions changes in recent years and now the government needs to step up.

She added:

"We are going to lose many, many operators.

"This is an industry which employs over 42,000 people and contributes over £7bn to the leisure and tourism sector and sadly we've been slipping through the gaps."

At the end of the day, MP Greg Smith, who covers Pitstone where the company is based, promised to help.

Candice says interacting with the company on their Facebook page helps them massively and has also asked we write to our MPs to raise awareness.
